Call for Nominations: Excellence in Teaching

Article Body

I am proud and honored to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award will be given to a faculty member who has demonstrated commitment to education, effectiveness in instruction, and success in engaging students in the discovery and expression of knowledge. The award will include a generous financial stipend and funds for curricular development in the awardee’s department, as well as a medal to be worn with academic regalia. In the past, this medal has been awarded during the commencement ceremony.

Written nominations may be made by any individual or group familiar with the nominee’s teaching. Full-time faculty members with at least five years of service at Pitt-Johnstown may be nominated for the award. The President’s Award Committee will ask nominees to provide a packet of information, study the materials, and make recommendations to me. A letter to the nominees will follow with more specific information regarding what the committee needs. Bearing in mind that “excellence” may be demonstrated in various ways, nominators are expected to include a description of the characteristics they have discerned in the nominee(s).

Nominations should be sent to Ms. Andrea Sadvari, Office of Academic Affairs, 241 Blackington Hall, by Friday, April 5, 2013.

Best,

Jem Spectar
