     01/03/13... (Box Score) Kaitlynn Fratz (Accident, MD) scored a game-high 23 points and Nicole Carman (Cleveland, OH) added a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds to help the Lady Cats hold on down the stretch for a 70-67 WVIAC win over Shepherd (WV) University, Thursday evening in the Sports Center.  Pitt-Johnstown improved to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in conference-play.
     In a first half that featured nine ties, 11 lead changes and 27 turnovers, Shepherd used an 8-2 spurt to open-up a 28-22 advantage on Rachel Johnson's jumper 14 minutes into the game.
     However, the Lady Cats outscored the Rams 17-7 the rest of the way to build a four-point halftime lead.
     Pitt-Johnstown's Rachel Johnson (Palmyra, Pa.) converted a traditional 3-point play to knot it at 28 at 3:07, before consecutive 3-pointers from Carman extended it to 37-33 with just over a minute to go.
     Shepherd cut it to two off of a Lady Cat turnover with 10 seconds left in the half, but Olivia Rizzo (Irwin, Pa.) answered with a jumper from the free-throw line as time expired to make it 39-35 at the break.
     A 3-pointer by Fratz on Pitt-Johnstown's first possession of the second half ignited a 10-4 run that put the Lady Cats in front 49-39 on Inaya Stephenson's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) basket at 16:39.
     The Rams followed with a 21-10 run of their own over the next 9:32 to regain the lead.  Gabby Flinchum's free-throws closed out a 9-0 Shepherd run to make it a one-point game , before Johnson's lay-up and free-throw gave the lead back to the Rams at 60-59 with 7:07 to play.
     However, the Lady Cats got it done down the stretch.  Pitt-Johnstown extended it out to 68-64 with 27 seconds left, and Carman and Fratz combined to hit 3-4 from the free-throw line and lead Pitt-Johnstown to the three-point victory.
     Fratz led all scorers with 23 points, including 4-6 from the 3-point range, while Carman had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Pitt-Johnstown.  Johnson scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Rizzo finished with nine points.  The Lady Cats also got eight rebounds from Jasmine Harper (Cleveland Heights, OH).
     Pitt-Johnstown shot 41.8% (28-67) from the floor, 6-20 from 3-point range and 8-15 from the charity stripe.  Shepherd ended the evening shooting 42.9% (27-63) from the field, 5-16 from behind the 3-point line, and 8-10 from the free-throw line.
     Johnson led three Shepherd players who scored in double figures with 20 points.  Alex Weakland scored 12 points, and Flinchum chipped in 10 points for the Rams, who dropped to 3-6 overall and and 2-3 in the WVIAC.
     The Lady Cats travel to West Liberty (WV) University on Saturday to begin a stretch of three straight conference games.  Pitt-Johnstown will return to the Sports Center to host a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Ohio Valley (WV) University on January 14 at 5:30 p.m.
