ATH07_100_BabikEmily_TKristin Kelly and Emily Babik Named Second Team All-WVIAC Women’s Soccer
     11/12/07...Pitt Johnstown sophomore midfielder Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) and sophomore defender Emily Babik (St. Mary’s, Pa.) were named Second Team Women’s Soccer All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) when the teams were released on Monday.  The Women’s Soccer All-WVIAC Teams were voted on by the league’s head coaches.....      Kelly, a 2007 Second Team Daktronics Women’s Soccer All-Great Lake Region selection and a 2006 First Team All-WVIAC choice, played in all 21 of Pitt Johnstown’s matches this season and finished as the team’s second leading scorer with 22 points.  Her eight goals and four assists also ranked second on the team, while her 75 shots and 39 shots on-goal paced Pitt Johnstown.  Kelly, a graduate of Bethel Park High School, had one game-winning goal for Pitt Johnstown, which finished the 2007 season with an 8-13 overall record and a 4-9-0 record in the WVIAC.
     Babik, a graduate of St. Mary’s Area High School, was named second team all-conference in 2007 after garnering Honorable Mention All-WVIAC accolades a year ago.  Babik played in all 21 games and had three points on one goal and one assist.  She collected 14 shots, including seven shots on-goal, from her defender position.
     West Virginia Wesleyan College captured two of the top three conference awards.  Bobcat junior forward Katie Shubert (33 points, 15 goals, 3 assists) earned conference Player of the Year honors, while West Virginia Wesleyan’s Glen Francis was tabbed the WVIAC women’s soccer Coach of the Year.
     Davis & Elkins (WV) College’s Cole Dant was selected as the WVIAC Freshman of the Year after leading the conference with 29 goals.

     11/06/07...Sophomore midfielder Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) became the first Pitt Johnstown women’s soccer player to earn a spot on one of the Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region Teams when she was named to the Second Team on Tuesday.  The teams were voted on by sports information directors in the region....      Grand Valley State (MI) University’s Katy Tafler was named the 2007 Daktronics Women’s Soccer Great Lakes Region Player of the Year after leading the nation 34 goals and 11 assists for 79 points in 19 matches.  Grand Valley State had three other players named to the first team, while Southern Illinois-Edwardsville placed a pair of players on this year’s first team.
     The first team selections will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration.
     The Daktronics Women’s Soccer Great Lakes Region is comprised of schools from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Great lakes Valley Conference and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

ATH06_BIO_091_PlowmanLindsay_TWomen's Soccer Suffers 3-0 Loss at Concord in First Round of WVIAC Tournament 
     10/30/07...Despite holding an 18-17 advantage in shots and a 12-10 advantage in shots on-goal, the Pitt Johnstown women's soccer team's season came to an end with a 3-0 loss at Concord (WV) University in Tuesday's First Round of the 2007 WVIAC Tournament.  Head Coach Crystal Dye's team finished with an 8-13-0 overall record and a 4-9-0 record in the WVIAC.
     Pitt Johnstown battled Concord to a scoreless tie through the first 40 minutes of the match until Lindsey DeVaughn took a pass from Gemma Nortcliffe and found the back of the net to give Concord a 1-0 lead.  The Mountain Lions added a goal by Laura Cloone in the 44th minute to take a 2-0 halftime lead.  Then, with 12 minutes left in the match, Leslie Kirk scored a goal to set the final score at 3-0.
     Sophomore Lindsay Plowman (Apollo, Pa.) led Pitt Johnstown with four shots on-goal, while Lauren Penn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Chrissy Burnsworth (McKeesport, Pa.) each had three shots on-goal.
     Pitt Johnstown red-shirt freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Paha (Slickville, Pa.) made seven saves, but suffered the loss and dropped to 6-10-0.  Concord got 12 saves in the shutout from Sarah Coelho.
     With the win, the Mountain Lions are now 12-7-1 overall.

ATH06_COA_011_DyeCrystal_TWomen's Soccer Ranked in National Statistics 
     10/30/07.....Head Coach Crystal Dye's Pitt Johnstown women's soccer team was ranked in several NCAA statistical categories, including Shutout Percentage and Scoring Offense, when this week's national statistics were released on Tuesday.  Statistics were based on matches played through October 28..... (NCAA Statistics) 
     Pitt Johnstown was ranked 31st in Scoring Offense at 2.60 goals per game.  In addition, Pitt Johnstown ranked 59th in NCAA Division II in shutout Percentage at .440.  Through 20 matches, Pitt Johnstown goalkeepers have recorded eight shutouts.    
     Statistics will be released each week throughout the 2007 season.
