Kelly and Roessler Honorable Mention Choices
     11/10/09...Pitt-Johnstown senior defender Emily Babik (St. Mary’s, Pa.) earned 2009 Second-Team Women’s Soccer All-WVIAC Women’s Soccer Team honors, while senior midfielder Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) and freshman forward Lindsey Roessler (Chalfont, Pa.) were Honorable Mention All-WVIAC selections when the teams were released on Tuesday.  The Women’s Soccer All-WVIAC Teams were voted on by the league’s head coaches...      Babik, a graduate of St. Mary’s Area High School, was named second team all-conference for the third straight year.  Babik played in and started all 17 games and had one assist from her defender position.
     Kelly, a four-time All-WVIAC selection, garnered Honorable Mention honors for the second straight year.  She was also a First-Team choice in 2006, a second team selection in 2007.  Kelly, a graduate of Bethel Park High School, started all 17 games and was tied for fourth on the team in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 points in 2009.
     Roessler, who graduated from Archbishop Wood High School, was an Honorable Mention All-WVIAC selection as a true freshman in 2009.  Roessler was tied with Kelly for fourth on the team in scoring with 11 points.  In 17 games played, Roessler collected two goals and seven assists.
     West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Meghan Zayas and Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College’s Kasie Shoemaker have been awarded top 2009 WVIAC women's soccer player honors.  Zayas helped lead Wesleyan to the WVIAC Tournament championship and was named Player of the Year, while Shoemaker played a key role in Alderson-Broaddus' rapid climb in the league standings to grab Freshman of the Year accolades.
     Alderson-Broaddus’Pat McGinnis was honored by his peers as the WVIAC Coach of the Year.

ATH09_120_KellyKristin_TLady Cat Soccer Season Ends With Double OT Loss at Wheeling Jesuit
     10/31/09... (Box Score)  A win or a tie at Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Saturday would earn the Lady Cat soccer team a spot in the 2009 WVIAC Tournament.  Unfortunately, Amy Stiltner's goal six minutes into the second overtime led the Cardinals to a 2-1 WVIAC victory and ended the Lady Cat's season with an 8-10-0 overall record and a 4-6-0 record in the WVIAC.  The loss left Pitt-Johnstown one point shy of qualifying for the WVIAC Tournament.
     Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) gave the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead with a goal on a direct kick 11 minutes into the match
     Wheeling Jesuit battled back to tie the score in the 61st minute on Kara Houston's header off of a rebound from Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Victoria Der Vanik (Bridgeville, Pa.).
     The score remained the same through the end of regulation and one 10-minute overtime.  However, Stiltner's blast from the top corner of the box in the 106th minute got by Der Vanik and gave Wheeling Jesuit the victory.
     Der Vanik made 11 saves for Pitt-Johnstown, while Jessica Park made four saves for the Cardinals, who improved 10-9-0, 7-3-0 WVIAC.

ATH09_120_KellyKristin_TLady Cats Dealt 7-1 Loss By Concord
     10/27/09... (Box Score)  Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) gave the Lady Cat soccer team a 1-0 lead two minutes into the match, but Concord (WV) University scored seven unanswered goals the rest of the way to hand Pitt-Johnstown a 7-1 WVIAC loss, Tuesday afternoon at Johnstown's Point Stadium.  The Lady Cats dropped to 8-9-0 overall and 4-5-0 in conference play.
     Kelly took Lindsey Roessler's (Chalfont, Pa.) pass into the box and beat Concord goalkeeper Kacey Hilldebrand to give the Lady Cats the early lead.
     However, it was all Concord the rest of the way.  Gemma Nortcliffe tied the match a minute later, before Katie Cuviello gave the Mountain Lions the lead for good with a goal in the 12th minute.
     Concord closed out the match with five second half goals, including a pair by Lindsey DeVaughn, to set the final at 7-1.
     Nortcliffe finished with two goals and an assist, while DeVaughn had two goals.  Cuviello added a goal and a pair of assists.
     Stephanie Paha (Slickville, Pa.) suffered the loss in goal for Pitt-Johnstown after surrendering all seven goals.  Paha faced 17 shots and made five saves.  Hilldebrand earned the win for Concord after giving up just one goal and making five saves in 77 minutes of action.  Emily Gallaher played the final 13 minutes and made one save.
     Concord improved to 10-6-0 overall and 7-3-0 in the WVIAC.
