Mountain Cats Roll Over Bluefield State, 89-62

The Mountain Cats used a 19-5 run over an eight-minute span of the first half to break and early tie and get things rolling in an 89-62 WVIAC win over Bluefield State (WV) College, Tuesday night in the Sports Center.
Nick Novak (Murrysville, Pa.)
scored a game-high 23 points, and
Ian Vescovi (Patton, Pa.)
and 19 points and 12 rebounds to help Pitt-Johnstown improve to 3-1 overall and even its record at 1-1 in the WVIAC.
After Remar Brothers connected on a pair of free-throws for Bluefield State to tie it at seven four minutes into the game, the Mountain Cats doubled-up the Big Blues 32-16 the rest of the half and never looked back.
Pitt-Johnstown used a 19-5 run to build a 26-12 advantage with 7:12 left in the first half.

Another bucket from
Novak
five minutes later pushed the Mountain Cat lead to 19 at 37-18, before Pitt-Johnstown went into the halftime break leading 39-23.
It was more of the same in the second half. Johnny Uhegwu hit a 3-pointer for Bluefield State to open the half, but Pitt-Johnstown extended it to 23 on
Jordan Miller's (Vinco, Pa.)
3-pointer with 12:43 to play, then to 24 at 61-37 a minute later on
Vescovi's
free-throw.
The Big Blues pulled to within 18 on three occasions, with the last coming at 7:24 on Uhegwu's jumper, but it never got any closer.
Luther's
free-throws gave Pitt-Johnstown its largest lead of the game at 87-58 with 1:36 on the clock, and the Mountain Cats cruised to the 27-point victory.
Novak
led all scorers with 23 points 10-14 shooting.
Novak
also had five assists, four rebounds, and three steals, while
Miller
finished with 20 points, including 6-6 from the free-throw line, and a game-high nine assists.
Vescovi
had a double-double of 19 points and a
game-high 12 rebounds, and Luther tallied 10 points.
Novak
currently stands in sixth-place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,496 points and sixth on the assists list with 405, while
Miller
is second on the all-time 3-point field goal list (223) and 19th on the scoring list with (1,063 pts.).
Pitt-Johnstown ended the night shooting 54.2% (32-59) from the field, 3-13 from 3-point range, and 22-30 from the free-throw line, while holding the Big Blues to just 32.4% (22-68) and 5-27 from behind the 3-point line. Bluefield State was also13-20 from the charity stripe.
Antoine Bryant scored 12 points and Vincent Rogers added 11 points to lead the Big Blues, now 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats will host a WVIAC game against Fairmont State (WV) University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Davis & Elkins (WV) College for another conference game on Saturday, December 1.
