Dave Fogle Places Third to Lead a Group of Four Mountain Cat Wrestlers Who Become All-Americans
03/10/12... (Results) Dave Fogle (125 lbs.) (Summerhill, Pa.) reached the semifinals before placing third to lead a group of four Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers who became All-Americans for the first time at this weekend's 2012 NCAA Division II National Tournament at the University of Colorado-Pueblo.  In addition, Nathan Link (149 lbs.) (Cressson, Pa.) finished fourth, while Zach Lundgren (157 lbs.) (DuBois, Pa.) and Travis McKillop (174 lbs.) (Lower Burrell, Pa.) each placed seventh.  As a team, Pitt-Johnstown finished 12th with 38.5 points.
Fogle started by the tournament pinning Western State's Dustin Stiegemeyer at 5:35, before winning a 6-2 decision over Findlay's Ben Sergent to advance to the semifinals, where Grand Canyon's Kyle McCrite scored a close 9-8 decision.  However, Fogle rebounded with a 6-5 win over Kenny Trumbetta (Seton Hill), then defeated Sergent for the second time in the tournament to place third.
Link, Lundgren, and McKillop had a much tougher road to join the ranks of the All-Americans.  Each one suffered losses in the first round, but won their next two matches to earn the right to wrestle on Saturday.
On Saturday, Link defeated Ashland's Marc Hoff and Central Oklahoma's Ky Corley by decision, but dropped a 5-3 decision to Grand Canyon's Bobby Ward in the third-place match.
Lundgren and McKillop both lost in the third round of the consolations, but bounced back to win their seventh-place matches.  Lundgren scored a 12-7 win over Jeremy Bommarito (Limestone), and McKillop shutout Nebraksa-Kearney's Mark Fiala, 7-0, in his last match of the tournament.
Three Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers were eliminated on Friday.  Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) (197 lbs.) rebounded from an opening round loss to win his first consolation match, but was eliminated in the second round of the consolations.  Returning All-American Jack Bachman (Greensburg, Pa.)
