Cuccaro Nat'l. Leader in Saves Per Game in Final NCAA Stats 
     12/04/11...Mountain Cat senior goalkeeper Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led NCAA Division II in saves per game and was 13th in save percentage when the final 2011 statistics were released on Tuesday.  In addition, Head Coach Eric Kinsey's squad ranked second in saves per game and 16th in save percentage...      For the final nine weeks of the 2011 season, Cuccaro led the country in saves per game.  He finished his final season atop the national leaders in saves per game at 9.0.  Cuccaro was also 13th in save percentage at 82.8%.
    
As a team, the Mountain Cats finished second in saves per game (9.63), 16th in save percentage (.828), 76th in scoring offense (1.75 gpg.), 83rd in shutout percentage (.25), and 93rd in total goals (28).

Derik Swope Garners First-Team Honors

     11/11/11...Four Pitt-Johnstown men’s soccer players have been named to 2011 All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Teams, including junior forward Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.), who earned first-team honors.  In addition, junior forward Zeke buchta (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) and junior defender Eric Grabiak (Scottdale, Pa.) were both named to the second-team, and goalkeeper Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) wan an honorable mention choice...      Swope, a two-time Second-Team All-WVIAC selection, was named to the first-team in 2011 after tying for the team-lead with 16 points.  Swope finished with six goals and four assists for Head Coach Eric Kinsey.
     Buchta and Grabiak both earned spots on the WVIAC Second-Team.  Buchta, and Honorable Mention choice a year ago, matched Swope’s six goals and four assists, while Grabiak had one assist and anchored the Mountain Cats’ defense.
     Cuccaro rounded out the Mountain Cats on the All-WVIAC Team with an honorable mention selection.  Cuccaro, who was nominated for the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region Team, leads NCAA Division II in saves per game (8.8) and is 14th in save percentage (.830).
     WVIAC regular season and tournament champion University of Charleston (WV) took home two of the three top conference awards.  Senior forward Dion Peters was tabbed the WVIAC Player of the Year for the second time in his career, while first-year Head Coach Chris Grassie was named the WVIAC Coach of the Year.
     Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University’s Ignacio Fernandez was the WVIAC Freshman of the Year after leading the Cardinals to a spot in the conference tournament’s championship match.
     The Mountain Cats earned a spot in the WVIAC Tournament for the fifth consecutive year and finished the 2011 season with a 7-9-0 overall record and a 5-4-0 conference record.

ATH10_016_BuchtaZeke_TDavis & Elkins Eliminates Mountain Cats in WVIAC Quarterfinals
     11/01/11... (Box Score) Fourth-seeded Davis & Elkins (WV) College built a 2-1 lead and went on to end the fifth-seeded Mountain Cat men's soccer season with a 3-1 victory in the WVIAC Tournament Quarterfinals, Tuesday night in Buckhannon, W.Va..  Zeke Buchta (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) tallied the goal for Pitt-Johnstown, which finished with a 7-9-0 record.
     Davis & Elkins went into the halftime break leading 1-0, before the Senators made it 2-0 early in the second half.  The Mountain Cat cut the deficit to 2-1 on Buchta's goal midway through, but Davis & Elkins added an insurnace goal late to set the final at 3-1.
     Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who leads NCAA Division II in saves per game, took the loss for Pitt-Johnstown after allowing all three goals.
     With the win, Davis & Elkins improves to 12-5-1 and advances to the WVIAC Semifinals at top-seeded University of Charleston (WV) on Thursday.
