     09/01/12...After dropping Friday's opener at the 2012 Fairmont State University Falcon Fest Tournament, the Lady Cat volleyball team bounced by with three stright wins, including victories over Urbana (OH) College and Notre Dame (OH) College on Saturday.  Head Coach Linda Renzi's team is now 3-1 on the year.
     In Friday's tournament opener, King defeated Pitt-Johnstown 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.  Karen Schmidt's (Boswell, Pa.) nine kills and four digs paced the Lady Cats.  Shanabrook had six kills, while Ashley DiRado (Greensburg, Pa.) collected five kills, three block solos, and a pair of block assists.  The Lady Cats also got four kills, a block solo, and three block assists from Larissa Swank (Boswell, Pa.) and four assists, a block solo, and two block assists from Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.)Nikki Oakes (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 17 assists, and Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) chipped in 11 assists, and Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.) (11 digs) and Katie Svetahor (Latrobe, Pa.) (7 digs) combined for 18 digs.
     The Lady Cats then defeated Ursuline, 25-14, 25-19, 25-27, 25-14, behind a career-high 22 kills and six block assists from ShanabrookDiRado tallied nine kills, three block solos, and five block assists, while Swank and Kendera each had seven kills.  Petrilla (31 assists) and Oakes (24 assists) combined to get 55 assists, and Kohler came away with 28 digs.  Svetahor and Schmidt also had 10 digs apiece.
     On Saturday, Pitt-Johnstown started the day with an impressive 25-18, 25-19, 27-25 sweep over Urbana.  Tayler Vebares (Red Lion, Pa.) had eight kills and a block assist, and Schmidt had seven kills and a block assist.  Shanabrook chipped-in six kills, and Swank added five kills.  DiRado and Kendera each had two block solos and a block assist.  Oakes had 16 assists and three aces, while Petrilla added 15 assists.  Kohler's seven digs led the way for the Lady Cats.
     In the finale, the Lady Cats battled back from a 2-sets-to-none deficit to defeat Notre Dame 22-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-15, 15-13.  Shanabrook had a team-high 12 kills, while Vebares and Schmidt had nine and seven kills, respectively.  Kendera recorded two block solos and seven block assists, and Kohler had 19 digs.  Oakes had 22 assists, and Petrilla finished with 16 assists.
     Pitt-Johnstown wraps-up the Falconfest on Saturday against Notre Dame (OH) at 4 p.m., before making its 2012 home debut against Ohio Valley (WV) on Tuesday and Wheeling Jesuit (WV) on Wednesday, Sept. 12.  Both home matches will start at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
