Men's Soccer Falls to UDC in Opener at Shippensburg Tourney
     08/31/12... (Box Score) The University of the District of Columbia used three late first half goals, including a pair from Adriel Garcia, to break open a 1-0 game en route to a 4-0 victory over the Mountain Cat soccer team in the 2012 season-opener, Friday evening in the First Round of the Shippensburg University Tournament.
     Bakary Coulibaly gave UDC a quick 1-0 lead in the third minute, before the Firebirds added three more goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half.  Simon Bratke's header in the 39th minute was sandwiched around the two Garcia's goals to put UDC up 4-0 at the break.
     Eddie Stover (New Kensington, Pa.) suffered the loss in goal and fell to 0-1-0 after facing 10 shots and allowing four goals in the first half.  Stover made three saves.  Tim Ofman (New Florence, Pa.) played in net the second half for the Mountain Cats and didn't allow a goal.  Ofman saw 10 Firebirds' shots and made five saves.
     Omar Gonzalez earned the shutout in goal to help the Firebirds improve to 1-0-0.  Garcia faced eight Pitt-Johnstown saves and was forced to make just three saves.
     Pitt-Johnstown will wrap-up the Shippensburg Tournament against the host school on Sunday at 6 p.m., before traveling to Bloomsburg on Friday.  Pitt-Johnstown will then make its 2012 home debut against Slippery Rock onTuesday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
