Despite monsoon-like weather just a few days before Homecoming, the weather for this year's event was picture-perfect. Friday evening, more than 500 faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends gathered on the campus mall to watch the traditional fireworks display. The evening officially kicked off earlier with an outdoor "Welcome Back" reception for alumni.
Saturday started with the first-ever Mountain Cat 5k run/fun walk, which started at the new Wellness Center. The annual Homecoming parade wound its way on the streets of Richland from the Richland Cinemas (former location of the Richland Mall) onto campus. In addition to colorful and creative floats and banners, the parade featured a marching band and all of the Homecoming Queen finalists. Following the parade, Lauren Dziagwa was crowned Homecoming Queen!
Saturday evening, nearly 100 current and retired faculty and staff, alumni, and friends gathered for a special Homecoming dinner celebrating Dr. Lowell Shaffer's 80th birthday. Although his official birthday wasn’t for a few more months, a great time was held by all! We've posted an album from the event at: www.pitt-johnstown.pitt.edu/30949/
