Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Glenville State

Mike Palkovitz (Mechanicsburg, Pa.)
belted a three-run home run and drove in six, and
Derek Younker (Big Cove Tannery, Pa.)
tossed a complete-game to lead the Mountain Cats to a 7-1 victory at Glenville State (WV) College to open a WVIAC doubleheader on Tuesday. The Pioneers answered with a 2-1 win in the nightcap to earn the split. Pitt-Johnstown is now 18-13 overall and 11-5 in the WVIAC Northern Division.
In the opener,
Palkovitz
homered, doubled and drove in six, while
Zach Vignero (Johnstown, Pa.)
had three doubles, an RBI, and scored two runs.
Jake Warner (Dillsburg, Pa.)
also had two hits, including s double and a run scored, for the Mountain Cats.
Younker
pitched a complete-game and surrendered one run on four hits to improve to 5-0.
Younker
also fanned four and walked one.
In game two,
Joe Galbraith (Brookville, Pa.
) hit a solo homer, but Glenville State made a pair of first inning runs hold up in the 2-1 victory.
Along with
Galbraith

Palkovitz
singled and doubled, while
Nathan Pope (Hollidaysburg, Pa.)
and
Vignero
each had a base hit.
Rylan Schnably (Bedford, Pa.)
suffered the loss and slipped to 3-1.
Schnably
pitched six innings and surrendered two runs on six hits.
With the split, Glenville State is now 4-22 overall and 3-13 in the WVIAC Southern Division.
The Mountain Cats travel to Seton Hill University for a three-game WVIAC Northern Division series on Friday and Saturday, before returning home to host a conference doubleheader against the University of Charleston (WV) on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium.
