Mountain Cats Take Two From Ohio Valley

(Game 1) (Game 2) Drew Ebersole's (Martinsburg, Pa.) walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh over the left center field wall erased a 3-2 Mountain Cat deficit to give Pitt-Johnstown a 6-3 win in Wednesday's WVIAC opener over Ohio Valley (WV) University at the Point Stadium. The Mountain Cats completed the sweep and improved to 15-11 overall and 8-3 in the WVIAC Northern Division with a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.
Ohio Valley took a quick 1-0 lead on Tyler Proctor's solo homer in the first inning, before the Fighting Scots added another run in the third.
The Mountain Cats cut it in half with a run in the fourth. Jake Warner (Dillsburg, Pa.) tripled to the gap in right center and scored on Kyle Morrow's (McVeytown, Pa.) ground out, but Ohio Valley got it right back on Proctor's third straight hit, an RBI single to center, to make it 3-1.
Warner's third hit of the day drove home Nathan Pope (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) from third in the Mountain Cats' sixth to get Pitt-Johnstown to within one.
In Pitt-Johnstown's seventh, the Mountain Cats loaded the bases with nobody out, before Ebersole belted the walk-off grand slam.
Warner went 3-for-3 with a triple, and RBI and a run scored, while Ebersole drove in four with his grand slam. Morrow added a hit and an RBI and scored a run for the Mountain Cats.
Andrew Keirn (Dillsburg, Pa.) picked-up the win to even his record at 1-1 after striking out a pair in a perfect seventh inning. Rylan Schnably (Bedford, Pa.) started and allowed two runs on seven hits in three innings.
In game two, Joe Galbraith (Brockway, Pa.) broke a scoreless tie with a two run homerun to left center to lead the Mountain Cats to a 5-2 victory.
The Fighting Scots scratched out a run in the sixth on a double steal, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with three in the bottom of the sixth to increasse it to 5-1. Ebersole's double chased home Zach Vignero (Johnstown, Pa.) from secondto push the lead up to 3-1, and Jeff Campbell (Brackenridge, Pa.) followed with a two RBI single up the middle.
Ebersole had two hits, drove in a run and scored twice, while Glabraith homered and drove in a pair. Campbell also had two RBI for Pitt-Johnstown.
Derek Younker (Big Cove Tannery, Pa.) scattered four hits in five scoreless innings to improve to 4-0. Joe Novotny (Johnstown, Pa.) and Nate Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) each pitched an inning and allowed a run apiece.
Ohio Valley fell to 8-14 overall and 4-6 in the WVIAC Southern Division.
Pitt-Johnstown will host a three-game WVIAC Northern Division series against West Liberty (WV) University on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium, before traveling to Glenville State (WV) College on Tuesday for a conference doubleheader.
