The Mountain Cats collected 30 base hits, including homeruns from
Kyle Morrow (McVeytown, Pa.)

Drew Ebersole (Martinsburg, Pa.)

Drew Westover (Flinton, Pa.)
, in an 11-6 and 9-8 WVIAC sweep over West Virginia State University, Tuesday afternoon at the Point Stadium. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in the WVIAC Northern Division.
In the opener, the Mountain Cats banged out 16 hits and scored four runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to break open a one run game in the 11-6 victory.
Anthony Payne tripled to lead off the third inning and scored on Eric Craft's come-backer to the mound to give West virginia State a 1-0 lead.
The Mountain Cats answered right back in the bottom of the frame to go in front on
Morrow's
two-run homerun over the left field screen.
Pitt-Johnstown added an unearned run in the fourth to make it 3-1, before Andrew Pickering's RBI single to center in the fifth cut the Yellow Jackets' deficit 3-2.
However, Pitt-Johnstown broke it open with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. RBI singles by
Mike Palkovitz (Mechanicsburg, Pa.)
and
Jeff Campbell (Brackenridge, Pa.)
made it 5-2, and
Zach Vignero (Johnstown, Pa.)
plated two more with a double down the left field line.
Pitt-Johnstown added four more in the sixth, and West Virginia State matched it in the seventh to set the final at 11-6.
Vignero
and
Palkovitz
each had three hits and drove in a pair, while
Morrow
homered, doubled and had two RBI for Pitt-Johnstown.
Westover

all added two hits.

got the win after pitching a scoreless inning in relief of starter

tossed the first three innings and allowed one run on one hit, while striking out three.
In game two, Pitt-Johnstown added 14 more hits to build a 9-2 lead, before holding on for the 9-8 win.
The Mountain Cats scored two runs in the second.

West Virginia State battled back for two runs in the fourth, but the Mountain Cats got three more in the bottom of the inning, highlihgted by
Ebersole's
two-run homer to right center to extend it to 8-2.
After the Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs in the sixth,
Westover
hit a towering homer to left to make it 9-4 going into the seventh inning. West Virginia State scored four in the seventh, and had the tying run on second with no outs, but
Pope
worked out of the jam to secure the victory.
Westover
singled twice, homered and drove in two, and
Palkovitz
had three hits and two RBI.
Ebersole
also had a pair of hits and two RBI.
Derek Younker (Big Cove Tannery, Pa.)
picked-up the win in one inning of relief of starter
Elliott Chamberlain (Six Mile Run, Pa.)
to improve to 2-0.
Chamberlain
threw three perfect innings to start, and
Pope
pitched the seventh and stranded the tying run at second.
With the losses, West Virginia State dropped to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the WVIAC Southern Division.
The Mountain Cats will host a four-game non-conference series against Mercyhurst College on Saturday and Sunday starting at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium, before traveling to Bluefield State (WV) College for a WVIAC doubleheader on Wednesday, March 21.
