     The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is celebrating two milestones with a special event being held this Friday, February 24, at 11:30 a.m. in the Grand Lobby in Blackington Hall.  The event marks the joint kick off of Pitt’s 225th anniversary of Building Better Lives and Pitt-Johnstown’s 85th anniversary as a foremost contributor to the region’s educational, cultural, and social development. 

    The University of Pittsburgh will officially kick off its 225th anniversary celebration on Friday beginning with the Board of Trustees Meeting and Honors Convocation.  February 24 is Pitt’s Founders Day.

     The celebration in Johnstown will include a special anniversary cake featuring 225 candles, 85 of the candles designating Pitt-Johnstown’s anniversary. A specially produced 225th anniversary video will also be shared with faculty, staff, and students that celebrates the many milestones of the University of Pittsburgh and its colleges and campuses.

     Pitt-Johnstown will celebrate its 85th anniversary at various events throughout 2012, culminating in September’s Homecoming Week. Since 1927, Pitt-Johnstown has graduated thousands who are making a difference in the real world, leading productive lives, and transforming their communities.

     In addition, the University of Pittsburgh introduced its new anniversary website www.225.pitt.edu dedicated to the most notable events and accomplishments in its history throughout the year  to encourage visitors to return to the site often as it showcases Pitt’s tradition of building better lives through knowledge, discovery, and service.

     Founded in 1927, Pitt-Johnstown is located in the Laurel Highlands of Western Pennsylvania and is the first and largest regional campus of the University of Pittsburgh.  The University offers a high-quality educational experience in a supportive living-learning environment designed to prepare students for the real world of the 21st century.  Pitt-Johnstown is recognized by the Princeton Review as a “Best Northeastern College,” and by G.I.
