Lady Cats Celebrate Senior Day With Win Over Seton Hill

each scored 19 points to help the Lady Cats celebrate Senior Day and close out the regular season with an impressive 83-68 West Virginia Conference victory over Seton Hill University, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown, which closed in on hosting a first round conference tournament game on Monday, improved to 14-12 overall and 12-10 in the WVIAC.
Tiara Stossel's lay-up two minutes in put Seton Hill up 8-5, but the Lady Cats tied it on
Sara Trimarco's (Hollidaysburg, Pa.)
3-pointer and took a 12-8 lead on a
Fratz
basket on Pitt-Johnstown's next trip down the floor.
The Lady Cats never gave up the lead the rest of the half. Two
Trimarco
free-throws increased the lead to seven at 16-9, before the Griffins climbed back to within three on a Katie Gattuso bucket at the 12-minute mark.
However, each time Seton Hill cut into the lead, Pitt-Johnstown had an answer.
Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD)
hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 25-15 with 7:32 left.
After Seton Hill got it down to six with just over a minute to go,
Carman
connected for three, and
Kelsey Sleighter (Uniontown, Pa.)
closed out the first half with a driving lay-up at the buzzer to extend it back to 10 at 37-27.
Paige Alviani's 3-pointer early in the second half again got it down six, but the Lady Cats got five quick points
Carman
, and a lay-up from
Sleighter
to cap an 11-4 run to build the lead to 53-40 with 14:46 left.
The Griffins countered with an 8-0 spurt of their own over the next two minutes to make it 53-48 on another Alviani basket, but Pitt-Johnstown extended back to 11 at 59-48 on a
Fratz
free-throw midway through the half.
The Lady Cats maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way. Pitt-Johnstown built the lead to as many as 18 and cruised to the 15-point win.
Carman
scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while
Fratz
added 19 points and and dished out fie assists to pace the Lady Cats.
Trimarco
finished with 12 points, and
Katie McBroom (Derry, Pa.)
and
Loughner
each netted wight points.
Sleighter
scored four points and pulled down seven rebounds off the bench.
Pitt-Johnstown wrapped-up the day shooting 40% (25-42) from the field and 7-17 from 3-point range. The Lady Cats also hit 26-32 from the free-throw line. Seton hill was held to 39% shooting, including just 4-18 from behind the 3-point line. The Griffins hit 12-14 from the charity stripe.
Alviani poured in a game-high 21 points and had six rebounds to lead Seton Hill. Tiara Stossel had 18 points and seven boards, while Katie Gattuso had nine points and 11 rebounds for the Griffins, who slipped to 11-17 overall and 10-12 in the WVIAC.
