#8 Wrestlers Roll to 31-9 Win at Seton Hill
Coach Pat Pecora Earns Career Win #498
02/07/12...The eighth-ranked Pitt-Johnstown wrestling team got falls from third-ranked Ryan Link (Cresson, Pa.), and Travis McKillop (Lower Burrell, Pa.) in Tuesday's 31-9 win at Seton Hill University to give Head Coach Pat Pecora his NCAA Division II-best 498th career victory. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 10-3 on the year.
After Seton Hill jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a 2-0 decision by fifth-ranked Kenny Trumbetta over Dave Fogle (Summerhill, Pa.), Pitt-Johnstown answered with wins in the next two bouts to go up 9-3.
Link pinned Stephen Smith at 1:59 at 133 lbs., and fifth-ranked Jack Bachman (Greensburg, Pa.) followed with a 4-2 win over A.J. Fisher at 141 lbs.
At 149 lbs., Nick Nichols scored a 3-0 decision over Tyler Chesney (Roaring Spring, Pa.) to cut the Griffins' deficit to 9-6, but Zach Lundgren (DuBois, Pa.) won a 10-2 major decision over Adam Morranduzzo at 157 lbs. to extend the lead to 13-6.
Logan Shirey (Fairmont City, Pa.) won a 5-0 decision at 165 lbs., and McKillop pinned Randall Wagner at 1:11 to make it 22-6 in favor of the Mountain Cats.
Seton Hill's Zach Benzio then upset eighth-ranked Gary Lantz (Delta, Pa.), 6-4, at 184 lbs., but Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) won by forfeit at 197 lbs. to increase Pitt-Johnstown's margin to 28-9 and put the match away.
The Mountain Cats closed out the match and set the final at 31-9 with Josh Krupa's 2-1 decision over Ron Oswald at heavyweight.
Coach Pecora will look for career win #499 when the Mountain Cats host Anderson (S.C.) University for Senior Night on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before wrapping up the regular season at Shippensburg University on Tuesday.
