Lady Cats Roll to 86-68 Win at Ohio Valley

Kaitlynn Fratz (Accident, MD)
scored a game-high 24 points, including 18 in the first half to help the Lady Cats buld a 23-point lead, in an 86-68 WVIAC victory at Ohio Valley (WV) University, Thursday evening. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 7-9 overall and 5-7 in conference-play.
Just like Saturday's game at Seton Hill, the Lady Cats raced out to huge lead on with the help of seven 3-pointers and and 58% first half shooting.
Ohio Valley opened the scoring on the first possession of the game, but Pitt-Johnsotwn hit nine of its 10 shots and got six quick points from
Nicole Carman (Cleveland, OH)
and 12 more from
Fratz
in a 26-7 run to give the Lady Cats a 19-point advantage seven minutes into the game.
Six straight points from
Carman
gave Pitt-Johnstown the lead, and
Sara Trimarco's (Hollidaysburg, Pa.)
bucket push it into double-digits at 17-6 four minutes into the game. A
Fratz
3-pointer followd by two free-throws from
Grace Hyland (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
at 13:31 closed the run and put Pitt-Johnstown up 26-9.
The Fighting Scots scored the next six points, but back-to-back 3-pointers from
Trimarco
and
Fratz
, along with baskets from from
Kelsey Sleighter (Uniontown, Pa.)
and
Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD)
extended the lead to 19 at 36-17 with 8:42 left in the half.
Amber Smith (Morgantown, WV)
then gave the Lady Cats their largest lead of the half at 23, before Andrea Collins scored at the buzzer for Ohio Valley to make it 50-31 at the half.
The Fighting Scots tried to get back in it with a second-half surge. After Pitt-Johnstown got ths lead back to 21 on another
Trimarco
3-pointer, Ohio Valley used a 16-4 run, capped by two Dakeisha Mann free-throws, over the next six minutes to pull to within nine at 69-60 with 8:42 to play.
However, the Lady Cats outscored the Fighting Scots 17-8 the rest of the way to secure the 18-point victory.
Fratz
led all scorers and three Pitt-Johnstown players who scored in double-figures with 24 points.
Trimarco
finished with 18 points, four rebounds, and nine assists, while
Carman
added 14 points. The Lady Cats also got seven points from
Loughner
, and six points and seven rebounds from
Inaya Stephenson (Pittsburgh, Pa.)

pulled down six rebounds in the win.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 53.2% (33-62) from the field, 13-23 from 3-point range, and 7-9 from the charity stripe. Ohio Valley, which held a 38-31 advantage in rebounding, shot just 40% (30-75) from the floor, 4-13 from behind the 3-point line, and 4-7 from the free-throw line.
Mann scored 18 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, and Amber Avery chipped-in 16 points and nine rebounds for the Fighting Scots, who fell to 10-9 overall and 6-7 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host a conference doubleheader against the University of Charleston (WV) on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Fairmont State (WV) University for another WVIAC game on Wednesday.
