(Box Score) The Lady Cat basketball team used 12 3-pointers, including five from Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD), to make it three straight wins with an 80-67 non-conference victory over Clarion University, Tuesday night in the Sports Center.  Kaitlynn Fratz (Accident, MD) scored a game-high 18 points to lead three Lady Cats who scored in double-figures and help Pitt-Johnstown improve to 3-7.
     After falling behind 6-2 three minutes into the game, Pitt-Johnstown connected on six of its seven first-half 3-pointers over the next 11 minutes to build a nine-point lead of its own.
     Loughner's 3-pointer gave the Lady Cats their first lead of the night, before Fratz scored from beyond the arc to cap a 23-11 run to put Pitt-Johnstown up 25-17 at the 8:52 mark.
     The Golden Eagles pulled to within four on two Courtney Healy free-throws just over a minute later, but the Lady Cats got another 3-pointer from Loughner and a basket in the paint from Amber Smith (Morgantown, Pa.) to extend the lead to 32-23 with 4:52 left in the half.
     Clarion answered again with five straight points in the final 45 seconds to cut the deficit to 35-31 at the break.
     The Lady Cats came out in the second half and quickly regained control.  Three-pointers from Loughner, Nicole Carman (Cleveland, OH), and Kelsey Sleighter (Uniontown, Pa.) early in the second half pushed the Pitt-Johnstown lead back to nine at 46-37.
     The 3-pointers continued to fall for the Lady Cats.  Smith and Sleighter scored from long range on consecutive trips down the floor to make it 58-45 midway through the half, before Fratz 3-pointer with 6:56 to play made it a 17-point Lady Cat advantage.
     Clarion tried to get back in it and cut the deficit to 72-63 with 1:01 remaining, but it was too late and Pitt-Johnstown went on to the 13-point victory.
     Fratz led all scorers with 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line.  Fratz also had four assists and three steals, while Louhgner finished with 17 points on 5-7 shooting from 3-point range.  Sleighter rounded out the double-figure scorers with 15 points and three 3-pointers.  Rachel Johnson (Palymra, Pa.) added six points an nine rebounds, and Smith had nine points.  Carman ended the night with seven points and seven rebounds.
     Pitt-Johnstown shot just 36.8% from the field, but made up for with with 12 3-pointers and 18-20 from the free-throw line.  Clarion shot 52% from the floor, but was just 2-7 from 3-point range and 13-17 from the charity stripe.
     Ann Deibert led Clarion with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Hannah Heeter tallied 14 points for the Golden Eagles, who dropped to 3-7.
     The Lady Cats will host WVIAC doubleheaders with the Mountain Cats against West Virginia State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center and Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
