Lady Cats Suffer 86-62 Loss to Lake Erie

Kaitlynn Fratz (Accident, MD)
scored 24 points, but Lake Erie (OH) College erased an eight-point first half deficit and turned it into 26-point second half lead to deal the Lady Cats an 86-62 non-conference loss, Wednesday afternoon in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 0-4.
Fratz
scored 12 of her 18 first half points in the first 6:32 of the game to help the Lady Cats take a 15-9 lead.
Fratz hit a 3-thre-pointer,
connected on a pair of free-throws, then drained another 3-pointer on consecutive trips down the court to give Pitt-Johnstown a six-point advantage.
Lake Erie regained the lead on a Cate Cianchetti 3-pointer with just over 12-minutes remaining in the half, before Pitt-Johnstown went on a 14-5 run over the next six minutes to go up 29-21 on
Amber Smith's (Morgantown, WV)
lay-up.
However, it was all Storm the rest of the way. Lake Erie outscored the Lady Cats 18-2 over the final 5:44 of the first half. A Jen Caiola 3-pointer knotted it at 29, and Cianchetti knocked down another shot from behind the arc at the buzzer to put the Storm in front, 39-31, at the break.
Pitt-Johnstown was able to cut the deficit to 39-33 on
Nicole Carman's (Cleveland, OH)
bucket in the paint early in the second half, but it would never get any closer.
Stephanie Rogers pushed the lead to 20 with 6:33 remaining, and Allison Pavkov scored to give the Storm its largest lead of the day at 82-56 with 1:16 left, before Lake Erie cruised to the 24-point victory.
Fratz
tied for game-high with 24 points on 8-16 shooting from the field, 4-8 from three-point range. and 4-4 from the free-throw line.
Fratz
also grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.
Smith
, the only other Lady Cat to score in double-figures, finished with 15 points and five rebounds.
Kelsey Sleighter (Uniontown, Pa.)
had eight points and six rebounds, and
Carman
had seven points and five rebounds.
Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.)
grabbed six rebounds for Pitt-Johnstown.
The Lady Cats shot just 28.8% (21-73) and 8-25 from behind the three-point line. Pitt-Johnstown was also a perfect 12-12 from the charity stripe. Lake Erie ended the afternoon shooting a solid 46.9% (30-64) from the floor, 11-26 from three-point range, and 15-19 from the free-throw line.
Caiola's 24 points, including five three-pointers and 5-5 from the free-throw line matched Fratz for game-high and led three Storm players who scored in double-figures. Rogers scored 12 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, while Chrissy Delaney chipped-in 11 points for Lake Erie, which improved to 4-0 on the season.
The Lady Cats host a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
