
Mountain Cat Basketball Picked Second in WVIAC
11/02/11...Head Coach Bob Rukavina's (23rd season) Mountain Cat basketball team has been picked to finish second in 2011-12 WVIAC Preseason Coaches Poll after receiving one first-place vote and 187 total points. 2011 NCAA Division II National Semifinalist West Liberty (WV) University is the favorite to repeat as WVIAC champions this season... The Hilltoppers were first on 11 of the 15 ballots for a total of 216 points. Earlier this week, Head Coach Jim Crutchfield’s team was selected sixth in the NABC Preseason NCAA Division II Top 25 poll.
Pitt-Johnstown’s 187 points made the squad second in the preseason poll. The Mountain Cats picked up one first-place nod. The University of Charleston (WV) was chosen third, notching 186 points.
Fairmont State (WV) University picked up a second-place vote and a third-place nod en route to being fourth in the poll with 168 total points, while West Virginia State University rounded out the top five with 162 points. The Yellow Jackets were chosen second on two ballots.
West Virginia Wesleyan College picked-up a first-place vote and two second-place mentions while being selected sixth overall. The Bobcats tallied 161 points.
Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University came in seventh in the WVIAC preseason poll with 154 total points. The Cardinals were ranked first on one ballot. Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College garnered 132 points for the eighth spot in the poll, and Shepherd (WV) University's 105 points netted the Rams the ninth spot.
Concord (WV) University rounded out the top-10 with 78 points. Seton Hill University was selected 11th with 75 points, and Davis & Elkins (WV) College was 12th with 72 points.
Glenville State (WV) College (50 points), Ohio Valley (WV) University (32 points), and Bluefield State (22 points) College were 13th through 15th, respectively in the poll.
