Mountain Cats Split Doubleheader
at Ohio Valley College Head Coach Todd Williams and the Mountain Cat baseball team earned its fourth straight doubleheader split with a 16-13 victory and a 7-3 loss at Ohio Valley (WV) College on Sunday. Pitt Johnstown is now 16-8 on the season.
In Sunday's first game, the Mountain Cats out-slugged Ohio Valley behind a 4-for-5, four RBI performance from senior outfielder Adam Fairman (Creekside, Pa.) and a 3-for-5 performance, including a homerun, two RBI and three runs from sophomore outfielder Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.). Junior catcher Josh Mearkle (Everett, Pa.) had three hits and three RBI, while junior first baseman Casey Long (Johnstown, Pa.) had two hits and drove in three runs. Sophomore outfielder Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) and freshman shortstop Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) each added two hits. Freshman pitcher David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) earned his first collegiate win after pitching 3.2 innings of relief, and junior right hander Brian Chruscial (Irwin, Pa.) picked up his second save of the year.
In game two, Fairman and Turka each had a double, but it wasn't enough, as Pitt Johnstown fell, 7-3. Senior right hander Reggie Weaver (Meyersdale, Pa.) sufferd the loss and fell to 2-3.
Pitt Johnstown will make its 2005 home debut with a doubleheader against Clarion University on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. The Mountain Cats will also host West Virginia Wesleyan College on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
