2011 LADY CAT VOLLEYBALL SEASON PREVIEW
The 2011 version of
Head Coach Linda Renzi’s (8th season)
Pitt-Johnstown Lady Cat volleyball team looks to take the next step after finishing sixth in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (WVIAC) regular season and advancing to the quarterfinals of the league’s tournament a year ago.
Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.)
, this season’s lone returning senior, will provide offensive firepower and leadership as the team’s captain.
The Lady Cats will also welcome back several others from last year’s squad the posted a 13-12 overall record and an 8-6 mark in conference play.
Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.)
is back at the setter position, and
Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.)
returns as the team’s libero. Sophomores
Ashley Dirado (Greensburg, Pa.)
and
Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.)
will anchor the middle of the front line, while
Karen Schmidt (Boswell, Pa.)
looks to take over a starting outside hitter spot for
Coach Renzi
.
Pitt-Johnstown signed 12 freshmen to the roster in 2011. With several PIAA All-State honorees and regional award winners, this highly talented group should make an immediate impact and provide plenty of depth to the squad.
With some collegiate experience from the newcomers, combined with the returning talent, the 2011 Lady Cat volleyball team has the potential to push its way into the upper echelon of the WVIAC this season and in the years to come.
