
Women's Soccer Tied For 8th in WVIAC Preseason Poll
08/03/11...Fourth-year Head Coach Jim Herlinger's Lady Cat soccer team is tied for eighth-place with Shepherd (WV) University with 30 points in the 2011 WVIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Wednesday. West Virginia Wesleyan picked up 90 total points, including four first-place nods. The University of Charleston (WV) and Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College also garnered first-place votes.
West Virginia Wesleyan will look to defend its regular-season title and conference championship after going 12-4-2 overall and 8-0-1 in the WVIAC a year ago.
Charleston, which advanced to the WVIAC semifinals in 2010, tallied three first-place votes and 87 total points and are predicted to finish second in the conference, while Alderson-Broaddus was picked third in the coaches’ poll with 86 points, including two first-place nods. The Battlers reached last season's WVIAC Championship before falling in overtime to West Virginia Wesleyan.
Wheeling Jesuit (WV) was selected fourth in the poll with 63 points, and Davis & Elkins rounded out the top-five with 59 points.
