This year (2007), nine new UPJ sociology majors earned membership in Alpha Kappa Delta. We are very proud of their high level of achievement, and wish them all good fortune in their future lives and careers. We have enjoyed having them as students in our classes, and those who are graduating will be missed. Good luck to each and every one of you: Brittany N. Corsaro, Amanda Dolores Blasco, Linda L. Miller, Emily Ann Wingard, Diane E. M. Gobbel, Tracy L. Peterchak, Justin Robert Young, Sara Elizabeth Brown, and Eric Millinder. CONGRATULATIONS!
Students invited to join the UPJ Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi are among the brightest at the College, and are honored by their nomination. Forty-three initiates accepted membership in 2007, which will be conferred at the annual spring Induction Ceremony on MARCH 31, 2007 in the Whalley Chapel at 1:00 P.M. followed by a brief reception in the Blackington Hall foyer for new inductees and their friends and families. They will join an elite group of UPJ students, many of whom have gone on to graduate study in the most competitive institutions in the country and/or to distinguished careers in their professions. They will always be able to cite their induction into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi as the most distinguished academic recognition they could attain at UPJ.
Distinguished members of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi include Jimmy Carter, 39th President of the United States; the late Stephen Ambrose, distinguished historian and founder of the National D-Day Museum; Rita Colwell, Director of the National Science Foundation; Hillary Clinton, U.S. Senator from New York; George Olah, 1994 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry; Jamie Lee Curtis, award winning actress and author; Ellis Marsalis, acclaimed jazz musician; and Merlin Olsen, member of the NFL Hall of Fame.
