Baseball Team Earns Sweep
at Alderson-Broaddus College Head Coach Todd Williams' Mountain Cat baseball team raised its win streak to five games with a 5-3 and 9-3 road sweep at Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College Tuesday afternoon. Pitt Johnstown is now 10-4 on the season.
In game one, senior third baseman Anthony Yarkowski (Homer City, Pa.) belted a three-run homerun in the top of the fifth inning to put the Mountain Cats in the lead for good. Senior outfielder Adam Fairman (Creekside, Pa.) went 3-for-4, while sophomores Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.) and Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) each collected two hits. Junior first baseman Casey Long (Johnstown, Pa.) added a two-run single to help the Mountain Cats win the opening game. Senior right hander Justin Ronan (Lilly, Pa.) improved to 4-0 on the year with a complete-game, seven strikeout effort.
In the nightcap, senior Matt Hayes (Windber, Pa.) picked up his first win of the year after pitching 4.2 innings and striking out four Alderson-Broaddus hitters. Junior Josh Mearkle (Everett, Pa.) and Long both finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) and Pentz also had two hits apiece, and Yarkowski added a two-run single.
Pitt Johnstown is scheduled to play doubleheaders at Slippery Rock University on Thursday, the University of Charleston (WV) on Saturday and Columbia Union (MD) College on Sunday, before making its 2005 home debut on Wednesday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. against Saint Vincent College.
