Registrations are now being accepted for the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s 30th annual Learning, Enrichment and Recreation Network (LEARN) program, one of the longest-running premiere day camp learning experience in the area for students.

This year’s program will run Monday, June 25 through Friday, July 1, on the Pitt-Johnstown campus, and is open to children who will be entering grades three through eight in the fall.

Each day includes action-packed and fun-filled informative courses, lunch, and exciting activities.  LEARN introduces young people to the physical and social sciences, arts and humanities, current events, and technology.

Courses in this year’s program include “Amazing Mechanical Engineering” where students will find out what it takes to become a mechanical engineer by dissembling everyday things found around the house and discover what actually makes the items work.  In “Computer Celebrations” students will create cool graphic designs.  “Russian Adventures” students will learn how to speak some common Russian words, phrases, greetings, and play popular indoor and outdoor Russian games while learning the colorful culture.  Students will learn about the science of criminology; and how it makes the American justice system work in “CSI: Mystery Science,” as they sharpen their detective skills to gather and perform evidence collection, fingerprinting, fiber analysis, chromatography, and evidence impressions.    Using a variety of watercolor techniques and color theory, students will unleash their inner-artist in “Watercolor Mosaics Magic.”

The LEARN Program is presented by the Pitt-Johnstown Community Education and Outreach Office.  The Pitt PowerPrice is $139 and includes daily lunch, all activities, supplies, souvenir t-shirt, and graduation ceremony.  The Pitt PowerPrice deadline is noon, Friday, May 27.  The price after May 27 is $169.  To register, call the Outreach Office at 814-269-2099.
