Mountain Cats Drop Doubleheader to Davis & Elkins In Fort Pierce, FL
After winning its first two games on the Spring Trip in Fort Pierce, FL on Sunday, Pitt Johnstown suffered a pair of losses to Davis & Elkins (WV) College Monday afternoon. The Mountain Cats gave up six runs in the top of the ninth inning to lose game one, 7-1, before being shutout, 10-0, in game two. With the losses, Pitt Johnstown is now 4-2 on the year.
With the score tied 1-1 going into the ninth inning, freshman pitcher
Zach Toth
(Sarver, Pa.) suffered the loss in relief of senior
Matt Hayes
(Windber, Pa.) after giving up six runs (five earned runs) on four hits.
Hayes
gave up seven hits and one earned run in 6.1 innings-pitched, before giving way to
Toth
in the ninth inning.
Hayes
also struckout four and walked three. Senior third baseman
Anthony Yarkowski
(Homer City, Pa.) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to lead the Mountain Cats offensively in the first game.
In game two, Davis & Elkins jumped on senior right hander
Reggie Weaver
(Meyersdale, Pa.) for six runs on nine hits in three innings, before going on to win 10-0. Junior first baseman
Casey Long
(Johnstown, Pa.) collected a double for the Mountain Cats, who had only five hits in the nightcap.
Pitt Johnstown continues its Spring Trip in Fort Pierce, FL with single games against Concord (WV) University and Cedarville (OH) College on Tuesday.
