Baseball Team Opens Spring Trip With Sweep Over American International
     The Mountain Cat baeball team kicked off the 2005 Spring Trip with a 13-1 and 8-1 sweep over American International (MA) College Sunday afternoon in Fort Pierce, FL. Adam Fairman (Creekside, Pa.), Casey Long (Johnstown,Pa.) and Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) all hit homeruns to help Pitt Johnstown improve to 4-0 on the season.
     Senior right hander Justin Ronan (Portage, Pa.) raissed his record to 2-0 with a complete game, 10-strikeout effort in game one. Ronan scattered two hits, walked none and gave up one unearned run. Plummer finished 3-for-4 with a homerun and three runs scored, while Long was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs and three RBI. Sophomore second baseman Dan Del Signore (Johnstown, Pa.) had a double, a triple and four RBI, and catcher Paul Pentz (Johnstown) and infielder Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.) each added two hits.
     In game two, Fairman and Long hit back-to-back homeruns in the top of the first innings to lead the Mountain Cats in the nightcap. Fairman ended 3-for-4 with five RBI. Senior third baseman Anthony Yarkowski (Homer City, Pa.) chipped in two hits and two runs scored. Senior left hander Ryan Harner (Dauphin, Pa.) picked up the victory after giving up four hits and one earned run in six innings of work. Harner also struckout 10 and walked only two.
     Pitt Johnstown continues its Spring Trip in Fort Pierce, FL with a doubleheader against Davis & Elkins (WV) College on Monday.
