Pitt-Johnstown Baseball Team Opens 2005 Season With Sweep At Virginia State University     Head Coach Todd Williams (8th season) and the Mountain Cat baseball team opened the 2005 season with a 6-2 and 11-3 sweep at Virginia State University Wednesday afternoon. Senior designated hitter Adam Fairman (Creekside, Pa.), junior first baseman Casey Long (Johnstown, Pa.) and sophomore catcher Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) all homered to help Pitt-Johnstown start the year with a 2-0 record.
     In game one, senior right hander Justin Ronan (Portage, Pa.) gave up two hits and struck out eight to earn the victory. Senior left hander Ryan Harner (Dauphin, Pa.) struck out five in the final two innings to pick up the save. Offensively, Fairman belted a two-run homerun in his first at-bat of the season and finished 1-4 with a pair of RBI, while Long was 4-for-4 with a homerun, a double and two RBI. Pentz and freshman infielder Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) each had two hits in three at-bats and junior outfielder Josh Mearkle (Everett, Pa.) chipped in two hits.
     In the nightcap, senior right hander Reggie Weaver (Meyersdale, Pa.) struck out four in four innings of work for the victory, while fellow senior right hander Matt Hayes (Windber, Pa.) pitched two innings and struck out four. Fairman collected three more hits, including a triple and three RBI and Pentz hit a solo homerun. Mearkle also had two more hits and two RBI and freshman outfielder Scott Parnell (Export, Pa.) drove in two runs in a 2-for-4 performance.
     Pitt-Johnstown visits Fairmnt State (WV) College on Wednesday, before traveling to Fort Pierce, FL for the annual Spring Trip from March 4-12.
