Mercyhurst Holds 8.5-Point Lead Over
Pitt Johnstown After First Day at
2005 East Regional Wrestling Tournament 02/25/05...Mercyhurst College and Pitt Johnstown both advanced eight wrestlers into the semifinals, but the Lakers lead the team standings by 8.5 points over the Mountain Cats after Friday's first day of wrestling at the 2005 NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
Ricky Randazzo (125 lbs.), J.J. Zanetta (133 lbs.), Don Cummings (141 lbs.) Hudson Harrison (157 lbs.), Zach Schafer (165 lbs.), Ben McAvinew (184 lbs.), Justin Mautz (197 lbs.) Angelo Caponi (285 lbs.) all earned spots in Saturday's semifinals for Mercyhurst, while Ryon Mazzocco (125 lbs.), Thad Benton (141 lbs.), Ryan Ickes (149 lbs.), Matt Roncolato (157 lbs.), Mark Glova (165 lbs.), Mike Corcetti (184 lbs.), Howard Bell (197 lbs.) and Zach Majocha (285 lbs.) all advacned into the semis for Pitt Johnstown.
In addition, the University of North Carolina Pembroke will have six wrestlers in the semifinals, while Shippensburg University and West Liberty State College both have five.
Entering Saturday's, action, Mercyhurst compiled 66.5 team points, followed by Pitt Johnstown (58.0 points), UNC-Pembroke (50.5 points,) Shippensburg (40.5 points), West Liberty State (33.5 points), Gannon University (32.5 points), Kutztown University (26.5 points), Anderson College (20.5 points), Limestone College (11.5 points) and American International College (1.5 points).
