Lady Cats Celebrate Alumni Day and Senior Day With, 83-74, Win Over Bloomsburg University Head Coach Jodi Gault and the Pitt Johnstown women's basketball team celebrated Alumni Day and recognized this year's lone senior, Melissa Patterson (Alexandria, Pa.), in Saturday afternoon's home finale, before going out and defeating Bloomsburg University, 83-74, in the Sports Center. Junior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) led four Lady Cats who scored in double-figures with 23 points, including a 9-10 performance from the free-throw line.
Along with her 90% from the free-throw line, Conner was 7-13 from the field with six rebounds. Patterson finished her last game in the Sports Center with 18 points, six rebounds and a game-high seven steals, while sophomore forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 14 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Sophomore guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points and a team-high six assists and junior guard Jaclyn Schirf (Loretto, Pa.) chipped in nine points, two rebounds and three assists to help Pitt Johnstown improve to 19-6 on the year. With her 18 points, Patterson moved into 18th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,136 career points. She is now 12 points away from Pat Wajers (1976-80) for 17th on the list.
Pitt Johnstown, ranked eighth in the East Region, shot 51.8% (29-56) from the field and 81.5% (22-27) from the free-throw line for the game. The Lady Cats also forced 21 Bloomsburg turnovers and made 16 steals.
Meggi Rothermel's game-high 31 points on 9-12 shooting from the field, 5-7 from behind the three-point line and 8-8 from the free-throw line led Bloomsburg. Gabrielle Miskinis added 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Huskies, who dropped to 12-10 on the season.
Prior to the game, the Lady Cat basketball program recognized Patterson, the nation's 10th leading scorer at 21.7 points per game. Patterson has recently been nominated for the Kodak and Daktronics All-American Teams. On Thursday, she was named ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District II.
Pitt Johnstown will finish the regular season on the road at Shepherd (WV) College on Monday and Columbia Union (MD) College on Sunday, February 27.
