News and Notes:

If you don't have a job after graduation...
Don’t panic if you don’t have a job waiting for you after graduation. Here are ideas to help you land the job you’re seeking.

Playing Fair: Your Rights and Responsibilities as a Job Seeker
Ethical guidelines to help you openly and objectively select employment opportunities, based on the best use of your abilities and your personal goals.

Facebook, Blogs, E-mail, You, and the Workplace
The rules for use of technology change once you enter the job market—or take your first job. It’s important to know and understand them.  More on Facebook.

LinkedIn
LinkedIn allows you to tell your story. Your LinkedIn profile is an interactive business card. Use it to describe your summer jobs, internships, volunteer positions, or personal passions. You've already accomplished a lot. Now it's your time to shine. Did you know that LinkedIn profiles are often one of the first results in Google search? Make this work for you. If your name is searched, be sure your profile looks its best.

Networking
Networking isn’t just a word to throw around in your class…it is how people learn about opportunities and make connections which can lead to an interview or job offer.

Resume
Your resume must be the strongest reflection of your strengths and professional experiences. We highly encourage you to make sure your resume is as powerful as it can be. Sample Resume. What not to do with your resume.

Stepping onto the career ladder: your first "real" job is a step toward a fulfilling career
You may feel that your degree would be wasted in certain positions you may be considering applying for. It is not. Yes, it is a deeply ingrained belief in the US that your dreams will be just an arm-reach away with a four year college education.  Regardless of what your first job is, you will gain valuable professional experience which will give you the practical knowledge necessary to apply for a more suitable position eventually.  You will need to submit your resume to as many employers as possible. Applying to just a few select places really limits the chances of being hired.  Of course you should pick jobs which are exciting to you and that will pay the bills, but think of it more as a place that will allow you to grow in your skill.
