Men's Baskeball Picked Sixth in WVIAC
     11/04/10...Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cat basketball team, coming off of a 17-12 season, has been picked to finish sixth in the 15-team West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference when the 2010-11 Preseason Coaches' Poll was released on Thursday.  West Liberty (WV) University and West Virginia State University are forecast to stay at the top of the WVIAC basketball mountain...      2009-10 regular season champion West Liberty is the top choice as the Toppers received a dozen first place votes.  West Virginia State, last season's tournament winner, earned the other three nods for the pole position.
     Fairmont State (WV) University, University of Charleston (WV), and Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College complete the top five.  Pitt-Johnstown, Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, Davis & Elkins (WV) College, West Virginia Wesleyan College, and Seton Hill University comprise the sixth through tenth spots.  Shepherd (WV) University, Glenville State (WV) College, Concord (WV) University, Ohio Valley (WV) University, and Bluefield State (WV) College round out the poll.
     Pitt-Johnstown (17-12, 12-10 WVIAC) could return to WVIAC title contention as Coach Rukavina's Mountain Cats return four starters.  Center Patrick Grubbs (Turtle Creek, Pa.) (16.3 ppg, 9.0 rpg), NCAA Division II's field goal percentage leader a year ago, is one of the region's top post players.  Senior guard Danny Branch (Washington, D.C.) topped the Mountain Cats in scoring last season at 17.4 points per game.
     The WVIAC men's basketball regular season opens on Friday, November 12.  The 74th annual WVIAC Men's Basketball Tournament is slated for March 1-5.
