Registrations are now being accepted for the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s 29th annual Learning, Enrichment and Recreation Network (LEARN) program, the area’s longest running premiere day camp learning experience for students.

Conveniently scheduled for mid-summer when students “yearn to LEARN,” this year’s program will run Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 16, on the Pitt-Johnstown campus, and is open to children who will be entering grades three through eight in the fall.

Each day includes action-packed and fun-filled informative courses, lunch and exciting activities.

Courses in this year’s program include “Sensational Science: Young Inventors” where students will spark their creativity by solving common, everyday problems using an assortment of household items.  In “Outdoor Exploration: Nature Hike,” nature is unleashed as students will take a wild adventure down Pitt-Johnstown’s Nature Trail. In “Computers: Your Cool World” students will use computer technology and their imagination to create their very own perfect world.  Students will enter the world of theater as they visit theater from Greece, Asia, Britian, Spain, and American in “Acting 101: Theatrical Trek,” and, by week’s end, the students will perform and participate in a small group performance.    Students will take a walk on the “wild side” in the hands-on multimedia writing workshop “Wild Writing,” as they venture into Pitt-Johnstown’s beautiful wooded areas, discover  how to observe and record individual outdoor experiences.

LEARN introduces young people to the physical and social sciences, arts and humanities, current events and technology.  All LEARN activities take place on the Pitt-Johnstown campus, featuring state-of-the-art computer laboratories, science labs, and lush natural setting.

The LEARN Program is presented by the Pitt-Johnstown Community Education and Outreach Office.  The Pitt PowerPrice is $139 and includes daily lunch, all activities, supplies, souvenir t-shirt, and graduation ceremony.  The Pitt PowerPrice deadline is noon, Friday, June 11.  The price after June 11 is $169.  To register, call the Outreach Office at 814-269-2099.
