Melissa Patterson Scores 1,000th Point,
But Lady Cats Stumble,
74-70, at Davis & Elkins Senior forward Melissa Patterson (Alexandria, Pa.) poured in a career-high 31 points to become the 27th Lady Cat basketball player to reach the 1,000-point plateau, but Davis & Elkins (WV) College pulled off a, 74-70, home upset over Pitt Johnstown Monday night. Patterson, who needed 29 points entering the game, now has 1,002 for her career.
Patterson tallied her 31 points on 10-22 shooting from the field, 3-8 from three-point range and 8-14 from the free-throw line. Her 1,002 points ties her with Julie Schlimm (1989-93) for 26th on the All-Time Scoring List, 33 points away from Deb Deaner (1975-79) for 25th place.
Sophomore guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) added 13 points, five rebounds and four assists, while sophomore forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Junior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) finished 5-5 from the field for 10 points, while junior guard Jaclyn Schirf (Loretto, Pa.) grabbed seven rebounds and red-shirt sophomore forward Shannon Reigh (Williamsburg, Pa.) pulled down five rebounds for the Lady Cats, who fell to 14-5 on the season.
The Lady Cats built a 38-31 halftime lead, but Davis & Elkins stormed back to outscore Pitt Johnstown 43-32 in the second half. Pitt Johnstown out rebounded the Senators 35-30, and shot 45.6% (26-57) from the field, but struggled from the free-throw. The Lady Cats made just 13-20, while Davis & Elkins made 15 of their 16 free-throw attempts.
Grace Cyphert's 19 points and team-high eight rebounds led the way for Davis & Elkins. Whitney Parsons added 16 points, and Katie Bright and Daya Perkins finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively for the Senators.
The Lady Cats travel to Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Tuesday, before returning home to host West Virginia State College as part of a doubleheader with the Mountain Cat men's team on Monday, February 7 at 6:00 p.m.
