Public sociology is a sociology that is engaged in community settings in which people, groups, and organizations are treated as partners in research and not merely as subjects of, and opportunities for, research. Public sociology is based on an application of action-oriented academic scholarship and research, which is communicated as much as possible in relevant (rather than irrelevant) langauge and translations. As such, it is in keeping with the perspectives of most of the early founders of sociology as a science
