NOTE: Effective April 30, 2008, Dr. Beuthin has resigned his appointment as Professor of Geology at UPJ.  Starting in July, his new position will be as Senior Geologist with Devon Energy Corp. in Oklahoma. 

Professor of Geology

Degrees: M.S., Ph.D., The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1989); B.S., University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Teaching Interests: Sedimentary Geology, Paleontology, Earth History.

Research Interests: Paleoenvironments of the Late Paleozoic Earth System with emphasis on sea level and climate controls; tidal sedimentology; mudstone sedimentology; paleosols (ancient soils) as paleoenvironmental indicators.

Keck Geology Consortium
A national program that provides high-quality research experiences for undergraduates. Starting in summer of 2007, Dr. Beuthin is collaborating on a research project with Dr. Mark McMenamin at Mt. Holyoke College that is examining the paleoecology of Ediacaran fossils (primitive multicellular lifeforms) during Precambrian time .
GeoScience Adventures
Summer outreach workshops on geology and paleontology located in Shell, Wyoming. Dr. Beuthin is a member of the instructional staff.
