#7 Mountain Cat Wrestlers Pummel Visiting Anderson College, 42-3 After nearly a month off since their last dual meet, Head Coach Pat Pecora and his #7-ranked Pitt Johnstown Mountain Cat wrestlers were back in action Friday night in the Sports Center against East Region rival Anderson (SC) College. The Mountain Cats came out ready to wrestle and dismantled the Trojans 42-3 in a match that was highlighted by three first period falls and a technical fall to start the match. In the process, Coach Pecora recorded his 375 career victory at the helm of the Mountain Cat wrestling program. Pitt Johnstown enters Saturday's East Coast Duals at Shippensburg University with a 10-2 dual meet record.
The Mountain Cats put the match away early with first period pins by junior two-time National Qualifier Ryon Mazzocco (125 lbs.) (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria H.S.) at 2:23, red-shirt freshman Brandon Reasy (133 lbs.) (New Enterprise, Pa./Northern Bedford H.S.) at 1:15 and junior All-American Thad Benton (141 lbs.) (Claysburg, Pa./Claysburg-Kimmel H.S.) at 1:49. After building an 18-0 lead, senior All-American Ryan Ickes (149 lbs.) (Claysburg, Pa./Claysburg-Kimmel H.S.) earned a 19-4 technical fall at 5:22 over Toby Barnes. Senior National Qualifier Matt Roncolato (157 lbs.) (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury H.S.) won by decision in overtime over Herb Porter and senior All-American Mark Glova (165 lbs.) (St. Benedict, Pa./Cambria Heights H.S.) increased the lead to 32-0 in favor of the Mountain Cats with a pin over Hunter Garner at 2:34.
Pitt Johnstown also got a major decision victory from three-time All-American Howard Bell (197 lbs.) (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford H.S.) and a pair of decision wins by red-shirt freshman Mike Corcetti (184 lbs.) (Export, Pa./Kiski Area H.S.) and junior National Qualifier Zach Majocha (HWT.) (Upper Burrell, Pa./Burrell H.S.).
In the match of the night, Mountain Cat sophomore Eli Garshnick (Armagh, Pa./United H.S.) fell in double-overtime, 9-7, to two-time National Qualifier and NCAA #4-ranked Careef Robertson at 174 lbs. The match went to overtime with the score tied 6-6. After a scoreless first overtime, Garshinick held a brief 7-6 lead until Robertson earned a take-down to lead late in the first half of the second overtime. Robertson's escape in the second half of the overtime sealed the victory, 9-7.
Anderson enters Saturday's East Coast Duals with a 4-7 dual meet record.
