Project Overview
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown will break ground for its new Wellness Center at a ceremony Tuesday, November 10 at 3 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the project site, adjacent to the Sports Center. The 40,000-square-foot facility, being constructed at a projected cost of $9.7 million, will feature:
- three-lane, elevated running track
- cardiovascular and strength-training equipment
- dance/exercise/classroom space
- two multipurpose courts for basketball and volleyball
- an indoor climbing wall.
The facility will also include an outdoor wellness park.
The Wellness Center will bring the total number of buildings on the 655-acre campus to 36. The last major construction project began in 2004 with the groundbreaking for the Willow Hall residential facility.
The facility, which is expected to be complete in early 2011, was designed by WTW Architects of Pittsburgh. Carnegie-based TEDCO will serve as the general contractor.
