ATH07_281_HC_SashaPalmer_TLady Cats Fifth in WVIAC Preseason Basketball Poll
11/04/09...Following a run into the semifinals of the 2009 WVIAC Tournament, Head Coach Sasha Palmer's Lady Cats have been picked to finish fifth in the 2009-10 WVIAC Preseason Women's Basketball Coaches Poll.  Last season's regular season and tournament runner-up West Liberty (WV) University is a solid favorite to capture this season's conference title... (Full WVIAC Preseason Poll)
Pitt-Johnstown (18-12, 14-6 WVIAC) vaulted into contention during Coach Palmer's second season.  Juniors Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) ( G, 14.3 ppg, 3.2 apg.) and Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) (G/F, 11.7 ppg.) are expected to be standouts for the Lady Cats.  Monae Baker (Bushkill, Pa.) (SO. F/C, 9.5 ppg., 6.5 rpg.) was a force in the middle at times during her rookie season.  A crop of eight newcomers, including five transfers, should bolster the Lady Cats' depth in 2009-10.
The Toppers earned nine first-place votes to edge defending champion University of Charleston (WV), Fairmont State (WV) University, and Seton Hill University in the voting.  Pitt-Johnstown, West Virginia Wesleyan College, Concord (WV) University, and West Virginia State University hold down the fifth through the eighth spots in the poll.
Shepherd (WV) University, Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College, and Glenville State (WV) College are in the ninth through twelveth positions.  Davis & Elkins (WV) College, Ohio Valley (WV) University, and Bluefield State (WV) University round out the voting.
Salem International (WV) University is not eligible for the 2009-10 WVIAC women's basketball title.
