
Volleyball Falls in Five to WV State
10/30/09...Nicole Houser (Penn Run, Pa.) had 18 kills, one block solo and a pair of block assists, but it wasn't enough, as the Lady Cat volleyball team suffered a 3-2 WVIAC loss to visiting West Virginia State University, Friday evening in the Sports Center. With the loss, Pitt-Johnstown's had its three-match winning streak halted and fell to 9-15 overall and 2-9 in the WVIAC.
Pitt-Johnstown lost 34-32, 27-29, 25-14, 16-25, 11-15.
Along with Houser, Ashley Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa.) had 16 kills two block solos and two block assists, while Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) and Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) each collected 13 kills.
Taylor King (York, Pa.) paced the Lady Cats with 39 set assists. Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) added 23 assists. Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) finished with 15 digs and two service aces, and Hrescak chipped in 13 digs and two aces in the loss.
With the victory, West Virginia State improved to 14-10 overall and 9-3 in conference play.
The Lady Cats will celebrate Senior Day against the University of Charleston (WV) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Sports Center, before finishing the 2009 regular season with WVIAC road matches at Concord (WV) University on Nov. 6 and at Bluefield State (WV) College on Nov. 7.
