Allan Nail, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Education, English

Allan Nail is an Assistant Professor of English in the Division of Education at Pitt-Johnstown. 

Dr. Nail completed his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Florida, from which he also holds a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and a Bachelor's in English Literature.

With experiences teaching at all levels of secondary and post-secondary education, Dr. Nail draws on nearly a decade of middle school and high school teaching experience, as well as methods teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Within the Division of Education, he teaches methods courses, reading courses, and supervises field practicum and student teaching experiences.

His research interests focus on the use of social media and other online technologies to extend the reach of the English classroom, and incorporating technology in the preparation of teachers of English.  Dr. Nail also writes about the need to challenge the assumptions of the literary canon in curricula, and will teach using zombies whenever he gets the chance.
