Kevin, the cousin of Mountain Cat Andy Byer and former Mountain Cat Paul Byer, played for head coach Scott Cable at Conemaugh Township High School. Kevin wrapped up his high school career with 1,093 points and 480 rebounds. As a senior, he averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists per game. Kevin, a three-year letterman, was named the 2007-08 Somerset County Player of the Year and the West Pac Player of the Year. Kevin poured in a career-high 28 points against Conemaugh Valley High School and led Conemaugh Township to the WestPac title and a spot in the 2008 PIAA State Playoffs. Kevin also was selected to play in the 2008 Altoona Mirror All-Star Game.
