at WVIAC-CIAA Crossover Tournament - 10/09-10/09

     10/10/09...Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) finished with 25 kills and and Nicole Houser (Penn Run, Pa.) added 22 kills to the the Lady Cat volleyball team to a 2-1 record at Friday and Saturday's WVIAC/CIAA Crossover Tournament at Shepherd (WV) University.  Pitt-Johstown defeated Shepherd and Virginia Union University, and suffered a 3-1 loss to Elizabeth City State (NC) University.  The Lady Cats are now 6-12.
     Pitt-Johnstown opened the tournament with a 25-20, 10-25, 25-17, 25-23 win over Shepherd.  The Lady Cats erased a 21-12 deficit in game four to secure the win.  Houser ed Pitt-Johnstown with eight kills, three block solos and three block assists, while Ashley Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa.) addd seven kills, and Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) collected six kills and a team-high 17 digs.  Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) had 12 assists, and Taylor King (York, Pa.) added 10 assists and nine digs.  Irwin had two block solos and seven block assists.  Head Coach Linda Renzi also got 14 digs from Lauren Pennewill (Dallastown, Pa.) and eight digs and two service aces from Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) in the victory.
     The Lady Cats wrapped-up Friday's action with a 20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 21-25 loss to Elizabeth City State (NC) University.  Irwin had 13 kills, while Houser and Hogan had 10 kills apiece.  Houser and Hogan also combined for three block solos and four block assists.  Hrescak chipped in seven kills and seven digs.  King had a team-best 25 assists and Petrilla had 12 assists and seven digs.  Gearhart and Pennewill had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
     Pitt-Johnstown ended the tournament with a 25-8, 25-6, 25-7 sweep over Virginia Union behind eight kills from Irwin, seven from Hogan and four from HouserKing led the Lady Cats with 15 assists and seven digs, while Petrilla had nine assists and six service aces.  Gearhart tallied four aces and Pennewill added three aces in the sweep.
     The Lady Cats will host a WVIAC match against Seton Hill University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Thursday for another confernce match.
