ATH08_122_ZackA_TLady Cats Deal Lincoln 10-0 Loss in Kick-Off Classic
     09/07/09...Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.) and Lauren Penn (Plum, Pa.) scored three goals apiece to lead the Lady Cat soccer team to a 10-0 shutout victory over Lincoln University in Monday's final round of the 2009 Lady Cat Kick-Off Classic.  With the win, Pitt-Johnstown improved to 2-1-0 overall.
     The Lady Cats scored three first half goals, before breaking the match open with seven goals in the second half.  Penn opened the scoring off of Laura Hoehn's (Braddock Hills, Pa.) cross 33 minutes into the match.  Brittney Miller (Slippery Rock, Pa.) followed with a penalty kick goal five minutes later, and Stephanie Szczur (Johnstown, Pa.) ended the first half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 42nd minute.
     Pitt-Johnstown then exploded for seven more goals after halftime.  Zack netted three consecutive goals in the 55th, 61st and 66th minutes to increase the lead to 6-0.  Less than a minute later, Penn found the back of the net for the second time, before Pitt-Johnstown finished the scoring with three more goals.  Lindsey Plowman (Apollo, Pa.), scored unassisted in the 70th minute.  Penn scored her third of the day off of Gena Pentz' pass through defenders in the 73rd minute, and Chrissy Burnsworth (McKeesport, Pa.) scored unassisted in the 78th minute to set the final score at 10-0.
     The Lady Cats, who out shot Lincoln 38-7, also got three assists from Lindsey Roessler (Chalfont, Pa.) and a pair of assists from Hoehn.
     Freshman Victoria Der Vanik (Bridgeville, Pa.) got her first collegiate start in goal and earned the shutout after making four saves.  Lincoln goalkeeper Brittany Johnson made eight saves in the loss.
     Lincoln dropped to 2-4-0 on the season.
     The Lady Cats travel to Lake Erie (OH) College on Wednesday, before hosting Westminster College on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
