     09/01/09...Five different Mountain Cats scored, including senior forward Cory Winwood (Harwick, Pa.), who netted Pitt-Johnstown's first goal of the 2009 season, in a 5-0 shutout victory over Waynesburg University in Tuesday's home opener.  The Mountain Cats evened their record at 1-1-0.
     The Mountain Cats found the back of the net three times in the first half.  Winwood opened the scoring with a header in the 28th minute off of Tyler Aldinger's (Elizabethtown, Pa.) cross.  Eight minutes later, J.P. Schantz (Nazareth, Pa.) finished a through ball off of assists from Mike Kovarik (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.), before Caton Detweiler (McVeytown, Pa.) gave Pitt-Johnstown a 3-0 lead with his first collegiate goal two minutes before halftime.
     The Mountain Cats added two more goals in the second half.  Kovarik scored off of a scramble in the box in the 82nd minute, and Zeke Buchta (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) set the final score at 5-0 when he beat Waynesburg goalkeeper Luke Navickas off of Marc Bucci's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) throughball in the 85th minute.
     Kovarik finished with a goal and an assist, while Swope added a pair of assists.
     Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) earned the shutout and improved to 1-1-0 after making five saves.  Navickas saw 17 Mountain Cat shots and made four saves, but gave up all five goals and took the loss.  Kovarik fell to 0-1-0. 
     The Mountain Cats will host the 2009 Pitt-Johnstown Kick-Off Classic on Sunday and Monday and noon and 2 p.m.  The Mountain Cats will play Holy Family University on noon and Washington (D.C.) Adventist University on Monday at 2 p.m.
