09 WVIAC Preseason Poll

     08/18/09...Head Coach Jim Herlinger's (2nd season) Lady Cat soccer team is tied with Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College for eighth place in the 2009 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Preseason Coaches Poll.  Two-time defending champion West Virginia Wesleyan College is the overwhelming choice to capture the 2009 WVIAC women's soccer title...      Pitt-Johnstown, which finished the 2008 campaign 4-13 overall and 3-6 in conference play, is one of several WVIAC teams with little turnover in its starting lineup.  The Lady Cats return 10 starters, including senior forward Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.) (7 goals, 6 assists) and senior midfielder Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) (5 goals, 5 assists).
     West Virginia Wesleyan earned seven of the nine first place votes cast by league coaches in the annual preseason poll.
     Concord (WV) University, which finished second in the WVIAC regular season and tournament in 2008, captured a pair of first place votes and ended up second in the poll.  Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, Davis & Elkins (WV) College, and the University of Charleston (WV) rounded out the top half of the poll.  Seton Hill University and Shepherd (WV) University held down the sixth and seventh spots.  Alderson-Broaddus and Pitt-Johnstown are tied for eighth, while Ohio Valley (WV) University completes the poll in tenth.  Salem International (WV) University is not eligible for this season's WVIAC title.
