I am Mountain Cat Proud to announce that Dr. John Thompson, associate professor of mathematics, has been named the 13th recipient of the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
We are very fortunate to have a person of Dr. Thompson’s strong commitment and professional accomplishment as a member of our Pitt-Johnstown faculty. Through his passion for teaching and his work in mentoring students, he contributes in a most positive way to preparing our students for the real world.
In being selected for the award, Dr. Thompson was recognized for his use of real world examples and applications, and for encouraging his students to generate and develop their own ideas. He creates a learning environment where students can be successful while differentiating between various levels of student achievement.
Dr. Thompson received his bachelor’s degree at Shippensburg University, master’s degree at Bucknell University, and doctorate at the University of Kentucky. He began his career at Pitt-Johnstown in 1998 and teaches courses in geometry, topology, and theoretical mathematics.
