Head Coach Bob Rukavina and the Mountain Cats looked to rebound from a pair of losses when Glenville State (WV) College visited the Sports Center Tuesday night in the second game of a doubleheader. Unfortunately, the Pioneers jumped out to a 17-point first-half lead before going on the pick-up a 77-66 victory over the Mountain Cats.
Junior guard Joey Tutchstone (Vandergrift, Pa.) led Pitt Johnstown with 18 points on 5-13 shooting from the field and 8-13 from the free-throw line, and senior forward Paul Byer (Johnstown, Pa.) added 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Senior guard Allen Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in 10 points off of Coach Rukavina's bench, while junior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) had six points and Tutchstone grabbed five rebounds for the Mountain Cats, who dropped their third straight game and fell to 4-3 on the season.
The Mountain Cats struggled from the field, connecting on just 39.3% (24-61) of their shots, while Glenville State shot 50.0% (28-56 from) the field. The Pioneers also made nine of their 18 three-point field goal attempts and 12 of their 17 free-throw attempts. Pitt Johnstown was 4-22 from behind the three-point line and 14-25 from the free-throw line.
Justin Graham's game-high 28 points on 11-15 shooting and Larry Skinner's 23 points on 6-11 shooting from the field and 7-9 from the free-throw line led Glenville State. Harvey Ridley grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for the Pioneers, who raised their record to 3-1 ont he year.
