Article Body
I am delighted to report that Robert Knipple has been selected to receive the 2009 Chancellor’s Award for Staff for Excellence in Service to the Community.
Mr. Knipple, who joined the Pitt-Johnstown staff in 1985, is deeply involved in service activities and is a strong voice for a number of causes, especially those relating to children.
He embodies the Pitt spirit by connecting our campus with the Johnstown community and the greater University of Pittsburgh through his remarkable energy and vision.
His commendable record of service to our community has benefited the University through his ability to strengthen relationships and pursue new opportunities. In totality, he is a Pitt Man, embracing opportunity and contributing most strongly to our efforts to achieve a new dimension of excellence.
Mr. Knipple earned his BA in journalism from Pitt-Johnstown, and his MA in adult and community education from IUP.
He is involved in a number of community organizations and holds board positions with the United Way of the Laurel Highlands, the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce, and the Learning Lamp, where he serves as board chair.
He is a past president of the East Hills Business Association and led the effort to establish Project Click Safe.
He is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, Phi Delta Kappa National Honor Society, and both the Pitt and Pitt-Johnstown Alumni Associations.
In 2004 he received the President’s Staff Award for Excellence in Service.
Please join me in congratulating our esteemed colleague
.
