Fred Fornoff is Professor of Spanish and Humanities at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He is a former president of ALTA and recipient of a Fulbright fellowship, several NEH fellowships, and two NEA fellowships for poetry translation projects. His two-volume translation of political addresses, letters and journalistic pieces which José Martí wrote during his in exile in the U.S. between 1880 and his death in 1895 will be published later this year in the Library of Latin America series of Oxford University Press. The Endless Voyage, his translation of Laureano Albán’s visionary epic poem, El viaje interminable, was awarded the translation award from Columbia University in 1983. The Underdogs, his translation of Mariano Azuela’s novel of the Mexican Revolution, Los de abajo, is available from Waveland Press.
